John Bennett told to hit Rangers reset button as ‘destructive’ boardroom policy slammed by journalist

Gary Keown has called on new Rangers chairman John Bennett to bring change behind the scenes at Ibrox after mistakes were made by his predecessors.

There have been big changes behind the scenes at Rangers in recent weeks, with Stuart Robertson and Ross Wilson leaving the club amid protests from fans.

And Bennett has been told to “hit the reset button” at Ibrox after taking the reigns as chairman, with Keown labelling previous decisions and the running of the club in recent times as “destructive”.

Rangers

Writing in the Scottish Mail on Sunday on 30 April [page 103], Keown said: “Bennett has the chance to hit the reset button. To change the tone and see the worth of working with others instead of creating enemies, to establish more political strength at home and abroad.

“After years of Dave King firing off the blunderbuss, Douglas Park picking needless fights and everyone adhering to stupid, destructive media policies, Bennett ought to read the room and see the need to rebuild Rangers with one useful ingredient to accompany the money he keeps piling in. A spot of humility.”

Fresh start

This is a chance for Rangers to really kick on and start fresh after the absolute nonsense that has gone on in recent years behind the scenes.

Michael Beale has come in and made himself responsible for everything on the football side of things, which means it’s his job to deliver.

But he will struggle to do that unless he is given the right backing and support from those above him, which means Bennett has to get things right immediately.

This summer is a really huge for getting back to the top of Scottish football where we belong, and it will be important for Bennett to show that he is the right man to take the club forward for the fans.

There has been progress and some good decisions recently, but now they must be justified. Push that big reset button and lets kick on to win 56 next year.

In other Rangers news, an injury rumour scare has emerged ahead of the Old Firm on Sunday.
