Ange Postecoglou tipped to quit Celtic with Rangers result dependent on exit

Journalist Gary Keown has predicted Ange Postecoglu to quit Celtic with a clear conscience if they can beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday [30 April].

The Glasgow rivals face off at Hampden on Sunday with Celtic chasing the chance of a potential treble while Rangers look for their first silverware and win over the Hoops under Michael Beale’s management.

And Keown writing in his column for the Scottish Mail on Sunday [30 April, page 108] believes the Australian coach won’t be short of offers this summer, after all he’s achieved at Parkhead.

He wrote: “Win today and Postecoglu can leave Celtic with a clear conscience in the summer.

“Given the fact that there has been credible interest in Postecoglu’s services of late, it seems reasonable to assume something will appear from somewhere at the end of the current campaign.

“He was never likely to leave mid-season. The debt he feels to Celtic for giving him that opportunity in Europe he craved does appear to be absolutely genuine. They’ve been good for him and he’s been really good for them.

“By beating Rangers and making a domestic Treble a fait accompli, he will put himself in a position where he can surely leave on the best of terms – with all the trophies in the cabinet plus a real, strong legacy in terms of a youthful team with bags on sell-on value.”

Hope

Postecoglu has undergone a superb and successful job at Parkhead throughout the two years he’s been at the club, developing a catalogue of talents at his disposal, playing thrilling football and garnering a culture at Celtic that hasn’t been experienced since the days of Brendan Rodgers.

More crucially, the Australian has fostered a model and mentality that Rangers simply haven’t been able to compete with unfortunately and it seems as if the only way the Light Blues can taste success again, at a rate as Celtic have done in previous years, is for Postecoglu to depart but that really can’t be dependent on Sunday’s result.

rangers

Rangers have to be the ones celebrating a victory come Sunday [30 April] at 4pm as this game could well define the rest of Beale’s tenure for the foreseeable future.

The Gers simply have not been able to topple Celtic since Beale walked through the Ibrox doors as the Hoops have outsmarted them both tactically and in terms of quality on several occasions now and that terrible rut has got to stop on Sunday. Huge game for Beale and his team.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player this week.
