Rangers want bargain deal to sign Blackpool striker Jerry Yates as £5m transfer news emerges

Rangers are hoping to seal a “bargain” deal for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates in the summer transfer window, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing on his Patreon page on Sunday (23 April), Nixon reported that top Rangers scout John Brown has watched Yates, 26, twice in the last two weeks.

It is understood that the Light Blues have a long-term interest in the former Rotherham centre-forward but they’ll have to pay a fee to sign him.

Nixon claims that Yates has been valued at £5million in the past but it’s likely that Rangers won’t have to pay that much, presumably due to Blackpool’s perilous situation in the English Championship’s relegation zone.

No, thanks

If Rangers want to topple Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, signing players who are going to be relegated to England’s third tier isn’t the way forward.

Ange Postecoglou has decked out his Celtic squad with international players from across the globe.

Meanwhile, the Gers’ scouting team seems to have way too much of an emphasis on the EFL south of the border.

If you’re looking at top-end Championship clubs then that’s fine but there’s no way Rangers should be eyeing up strikers who’ve spent the bulk of their career at the wrong end of that league or below.

Yates has had a good season at Blackpool, scoring 14 goals and supplying six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

While he’s naturally a striker, he can also play out wide but the stats speak for themself. He’s scored 22 times in 108 English Championship appearances.

We need to find another pond to fish in because this isn’t great.

In other Rangers news, after what Michael Beale said, this player may never feature for the Gers again.
