Bristol City in advanced talks to sign Ross McCrorie for £2m after Aberdeen win v Rangers – BBC journalist

Aberdeen defender Ross McCrorie is on the verge of a £2m transfer to English Championship side Bristol City after their 2-0 win over Rangers on Sunday (23 April).

The Gers academy graduate shone at Pittodrie in his centre-back role as they kept a clean sheet against a strong team to further secure their position in third in the table.

But according to BBC Sport journalist Kenny Macintyre he is now on the verge of a move to England, with a deal likely to go through this summer.

“Aberdeen and Bristol City are in advanced talks about a deal that would see defender Ross McCrorie move south for a fee of around £2m,” he wrote in the BBC live blog covering the clash with Rangers (23 April).

“The 25-year-old would remain at Pittodrie for the rest of the season complete his switch to the English Championship club in the summer.”

If this isn’t proof that everyone turns up their level of performance a couple of notches when they play against Rangers, then nothing is.

After coming through the academy with his twin brother Robby, he never quite made it through at Ibrox but has gone on to make a decent career for himself elsewhere.

Today he lined up against Alfredo Morelos and made it look easy as he dealt with every aerial ball and anything that came around him.

A deal has obviously been in the works before today, but he made sure there would be no u-turns with his performance against Rangers and has earned a move away to England.

He stepped up in the biggest game of his season against a team considered to be top class and shone, and his reward is a mega-money move away. No wonder they always perform against us if that’s what comes from it.
