Rangers transfer failure as £7m loss all but confirmed by Michael Beale amid Alfredo Morelos admission

Alfredo Morelos’ future at Rangers has been a talking point throughout the whole of the 2022/23 campaign with the Colombian’s contract up in the summer.

However, on Friday, we finally got the news which everyone has been clamouring for. Michael Beale confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports (21 April) that apart from Morelos and Allan McGregor, there’s a chance everyone else will be Rangers players come the start of the 2023/24 season.

Of course, there’s a positive aspect to this news, with there now being potential for Malik Tillman to extend his Ibrox stay beyond the summer.

However, Beale’s comments have all but confirmed an immense failure which occurred at Rangers in the summer of 2022.

Ross Wilson revealed in December 2022 (The Times, 6 December) that the club had turned down offers for the Colombian striker. Furthermore, there were strong reports from Spain suggesting Sevilla had made a £7million offer for the Colombian striker during the 2022 summer window (El Chiringuito TV, 22 June 2022).

Essentially, the Gers could have cashed in on the 26-year-old striker just under a year ago instead of allowing him to run down his contract and leave for free.

The question needs to be asked, has Morelos made a £7million impact this season? The answer is a resounding no. Players of that value will help the club win silverware and turn up in big games.

Yes, Morelos has a decent goal return, but considering Rangers’ awful record against Celtic this campaign, it’s hard to argue he’s made the impact his previous valuation deserves.

With Beale all but confirming his Ibrox departure, the Light Blues’ poor decision-making has now been made to pay.

In other Rangers news, Beale made a transfer admission to Ally McCoist live on talkSPORT.
