Manchester United keeper Jack Butland would be good Rangers replacement for Allan McGregor – Pundit

Barry Ferguson has tipped Rangers to make a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland, who is on loan from Crystal Palace.

With Allan McGregor very likely to retire at the end of the campaign, Gers could look to bring in a new goalkeeper for next season.

Butland’s deal at Palace runs out at the end of the season and Manchester United have not yet made any indications to sign him permanently.

Ferguson told Go Radio: “Top goalkeepers win you games, so it will be interesting to see over the next couple of months what actually happens with Allan McGregor.

“If Rangers are to sign a new goalkeeper, I remember it would cost a few quid, as good goalkeepers don’t come out of contract. There has been one goalkeeper mentioned, Jack Butland, he was a young keeper when I was at Birmingham.

“He is out of contract in the summer and that could be an option in the summer. That might be an option for Rangers going forward.”

Good move?

Butland’s got 45 Premier League appearances under his belt thus far and will certainly be looking to be a first-choice goalkeeper somewhere.

He’s unlikely to get that in the English top flight unless he joins a newly-promoted side and he would be better off moving to Ibrox.

Michael Beale would not be against it as he’s had a number of good moments in England and can play well with the ball at his feet too.

Rangers

McGregor is 41 and it’s best if he retires and enjoys the next journey of his life as he’s given it his all to Rangers and deserves to enjoy retirement.

He would be welcomed as a coach in the future but as of now, the club need to think of options.

Getting Butland, a nine-cap England international in on a free transfer will be a good idea as they desperately need to get someone new at the club.

In other Rangers news, the club may now approach a sporting director who built a Champions League winning team and can hire him for free.
