Fabrizio Romano shares fresh Rangers transfer update amid conflicting Jose Cifuentes developments

Rangers have been linked with a move for Jose Cifuentes and Fabrizio Romano has given a positive update on the Light Blues’ pursuit of the Ecuadorian.

Reports had emerged of the Gers’ interest in the 24-year-old midfielder, who represented his country during the World Cup in Qatar.

US football insider Tom Bogert claimed via Twitter on Tuesday (18 April) that the LAFC star could move to the Light Blues, either in the summer or for free at the end of the year.

However, Mail+ disputed those claims (19 April) and suggested it was extremely unlikely for the midfielder to make the move to Ibrox.

Romano has since spoken out on the potential deal and his comments will give once again give fans hope that a deal with Cifuentes can be struck.

Talking on the latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast, the Guardian journalist said (14m 30s, 20 April): “Also I wanted to mention Jose Cifuentes. This midfielder playing for LAFC out of contract in December, from what I understand, in the summer, he has a chance to leave because European clubs want him.

Rangers

“Brighton have been tracking him in the last few months. But also Rangers want him. So keep an eye on Cifuentes.”

It appears there’s been conflicting information in regard to the Ecuadorian, but Romano is a well-trusted and reliable source of news. Therefore, a deal for the 24-year-old should not be completely ruled out at the moment.

With some of Michale Beale’s midfield options set to depart, another player arriving in that area could well be on the cards.

In other Rangers news, the Old Firm clubs are doing battle for the signature of a Bundesliga “top talent”.
