Michael Beale shares Rangers injury update ahead of Scottish Premiership clash v Aberdeen

Michael Beale has confirmed Rangers will be without Ryan Kent and Connor Goldson for their Scottish Premiership clash against Aberdeen.

The Light Blues’ boss also revealed (Rangers’ official Twitter account, 21 April) that Antonio Colak is touch and go for the game at Pittodrie.

One piece of positive news for the Gers boss is that Scott Wright will be back with the squad after missing the 5-2 win over St Mirren. Alex Lowry is also due to return to training on Saturday.

Eye on the cup

It’s clear Beale has got one eye firmly fixed on the Scottish Cup semi-final next Sunday (30 April). The clash against Celtic is season-defining. Realistically, it’s the Gers’ last chance to prevent the Celts from landing what will be a historic treble.

The most recent Parkhead performance was promising. They had dominated large periods of the Scottish Premiership clash and rued individual errors. This weekend’s game against Aberdeen is a chance for the Light Blues boss to rotate his squad and get some minutes into players who need a runout.

The league title has gone, there’s no point risking any of the Gers’ stars ahead of the defining moment in Ranagers’ season. A campaign without a trophy is a prospect which cannot be envisaged at Ibrox, and failure to beat Celtic at Hampden Park will see questions of Beale’s tenure begin to emerge.

A dominant display and another three points would be the ideal way to head to the national stadium.

In other Rangers news, a winger is already being targeted as a possible Ibrox replacement.
