Michael Beale to decide on getting rid of Robby McCrorie at Rangers – Chris Jack
Michael Beale must decide in the coming weeks whether to keep or sell Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, and the 25-year-old could be like a new recruit, according to journalist Chris Jack.
McCrorie has only made two first-team appearances for the club despite coming through the academy, with one of them being a clean sheet in an Old Firm derby win over Celtic in August 2021.
Beale has claimed that he hopes to give the 25-year-old an opportunity before the end of the season once he has recovered from injury, and Jack, writing for The Herald [19 April] has claimed that Beale must make a decision before the summer window, but McCrorie could end up saving Rangers some much-needed funds.

He said: “McCrorie is either the first choice keeper or he is not, either in Beale’s plans or not. If both of those situations are negative, McCrorie will leave Rangers this summer.
“Beale has spoken repeatedly about wanting to give McCrorie a chance to show what he can do between the sticks. If McCrorie is going to get a shot, then it must come sooner rather than later.
“McCrorie could be like a new recruit in many ways. If he proves he is good enough to be the first name on the team sheet then Rangers will be able to make considerable savings in terms of wages, and potentially a transfer fee, and reinvest those funds in other areas of the squad.
“There is, of course, the chance that McCrorie is not up to the job. But the only way that Beale will know for sure is to put him in the team and see how he fares at Premiership level.”
Opportunity
We already know that Jon McLaughlin is not good enough to be Rangers number one in the long term, and at some point, the Light Blues will be moving on from Allan McGregor in the not-too-distant future.
However, the Gers won’t know whether to go out and secure a replacement or if they already possess the answer under their noses if they don’t hand McCrorie a chance in the coming weeks.

And this is a big opportunity for him to impress, as Beale has probably already sought out some ideal replacements for McGregor in the likes of Preston North End’s Freddie Woodman and Norwich City’s Angus Gunn.
The cup semi-final absolutely has to take priority over the league now after the loss to Celtic last weekend, because the title is beyond us. So what better time for McCrorie to get a run in the team? If not, it may be handy to give McCrorie his shot in the remaining Scottish Premiership fixtures as Beale will certainly learn nothing by keeping McGregor in goal.
McCrorie could save Rangers millions down the line if he ends up impressing but the only way Beale and the club can come to that conclusion is if they are brave and give him the opportunity his loyalty to the club deserves.
In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has also shared the transfer priority at Ibrox already as a name has now been shared.
