Rangers transfer news as Celta Vigo could sign Ianis Hagi to replace Gabri Veiga

Rangers playmaker Ianis Hagi has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Celta Vigo’s highly rated Gabri Veiga, according to El Des Marque.

The Romanian international faces an uncertain future under Gers boss, Michael Beale, as he fights for his place in the team after a serious knee injury and could only be worth £3million.

Meanwhile, Veiga is attracting attention from top clubs around Europe including the Premier League and Serie A [ESPN], with a growing expectation that he will leave Celta this summer for £35.2million.

The Spanish outlet referenced unconfirmed reports from Scotland regarding the potential move to northern Spain for Rangers player.

“With a contract, recently renewed, until June 2026 from Scotland, they suggest that his departure could be around the same amount that Rangers FC paid in 2020. It would be about three and a half million euros,” they stated.

“Hagi’s name will not be the first to appear in connection with Celta Vigo as a replacement for Gabri Veiga who could cost 40 million euros, as recognised by the president and largest shareholder of the club, Carlos Mouriño.”

Smart business

Hagi is a good player but he should be sold by Rangers this summer because he is not consistent enough to a high level, in a settled role, and as an asset that could bring in a decent fee, that money can be reinvested into the team.

In fleeting moments, the Istanbul-born player has displayed what he is capable of, but they have been too infrequent.

He did play a key role in the 2021 title win but moving forward, the case to retain Hagi isn’t as strong as it should be.

The 24-year-old, a consummate professional, would likely jump at the chance to test himself in La Liga, in a style that is more suited to his game and approach on the pitch.

He benefits from a reputation as a solid technical player whilst his birthplace and legacy of his legendary father, Gheorghe, means he will always carry an appeal to Galatasaray.
