Outrageous kit prices could upset fans after Rangers and Celtic news emerges – Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers may risk upsetting their fans should they increase the pricing of their merchandising and official kits in the near future.
It comes after The Times reported that the Old Firm clubs could follow the pricing of the Scotland anniversary shirt, which cost £90 after its release.
The finance expert admitted that those prices are “outrageous” and it puts unnecessary pressure on fans at Ibrox and Parkhead if that were to happen.

“The price is outrageous,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“I think it will always rile fans up, for sure, because it is expensive and given the world, we live in at the minute, it seems high and it’s been high for a number of years. It’s not just one kit, it’s like up to fourth kits in some instances. It puts pressure on fans because, for those with kids who want the latest shirt as well as those, it’s expensive.
“I think that comes back to that clubs are aware of that and they know that they’ve got loyal fan bases that irrespective of the fact that they moan about prices, people will still buy it and they can use that as a defence then. Figures around £90 seem necessarily high.
“I think you do risk upsetting fans a little bit with things like that.”

John Bennett has recently stepped into the shoes of Douglas Park in the boardroom at Ibrox, and if he signed off on something as stupid as this, his reign would be tarnished immediately.
In no world can a football club choose to be in line with those numbers, and hopefully, the Old Firm clubs can learn from the mistakes of the Scottish FA.
In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
