Gary Keown has called on Stewart Robertson to quit Rangers after Ross Wilson was announced as Nottingham Forest’s new chief football officer.

Wilson’s exit was confirmed on Monday (10 April) and was welcomed by large swathes of the fan base after a tumultuous tenure at Ibrox.

Douglas Park also departed in recent weeks and Keown has claimed Robertson should be the next person to call time on his Rangers occupancy.

Writing in his latest Scottish Daily Mail column, Keown said (pg 100, 16 April): “All the momentum built by winning the Premiership crown and reaching the Europa League final the following season has evaporated.

“Fan protests are now the norm. Sporting director Ross Wilson has now gone, not before time, and Robertson should certainly follow.”

After the departures of Wilson and Park, the next logical move would see Robertson also step aside. The fanbase have made their feelings towards the managing director very clear. His position has almost reached an untenable state due to his decisions over the past year and he deserves to pay the price.

Rangers cannot sleepwalk into another poor season. The 2022/23 campaign has largely been one to forget and a successful 2023/24 season which is littered with silverware is a must. The Light Blues should take solace from the fact that Celtic were also in a fairly poor position before Ange Postecoglou took the reins.

The Gers were well ahead in the title race but were eventually caught by The Hoops after the Europa League run took centre stage. Since that moment, Celtic have only gone in one direction. Change can certainly happen quickly and it’s something Beale must look to replicate over the next 12 months.

He’s made a promising start in terms of signings and will be hopeful of adding at least four more quality additions over the summer window.

In other Rangers news, the club may now approach a sporting director who built a Champions League-winning team and can hire him for free.
