Rangers: Allan McGregor spectator as BBC Sportscene pundits stunned by St Mirren goal

Neil McCann has labelled Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor as a “spectator” as Mark O’Hara scored a wonder goal in the 5-2 win over St Mirren.

There was nothing the veteran keeper could do as O’Hara chested the ball down and volleyed it like an arrow into the top corner from just inside the box.

McGregor, of course, was not happy with his defence, but McCann spoke about his quality as a benchmark to how good the goal was at Ibrox.

Speaking live on BBC Sportscene on Saturday 15 April, McCann singled out McGregor to prove just how good the goal was as many at Ibrox were left stunned.

“Absolutely,” he said.

“To beat a keeper of Allan McGregor’s quality where he’s an absolute spectator. He takes it on that great big barrel chest of his and he just cannot catch it any better.”

Wow.

Sometimes you just have to sit back and applaud genius moments and O’Hara pulled off one of those at Ibrox yesterday with this strike.

McGregor could just stand and watch as the ball sailed into the top corner, but it was always going to take strikes like these to beat him in games such as this.

Rangers showed their class in the end and that is all that was needed to put their foot on the gas and score those five goals needed to pick up all three points.

It is all about next season in regards to the Scottish Premiership, with the Scottish Cup the only silverware realistically left to play for, so Michael Beale can experiment in these games.

The defence were not at their best at all, regardless of how good the goals were, with numerous chances to clear the ball before O’Hara smashed home.

Beale will be sending that message to his squad, with more needed ahead of next season already.

In other Rangers news, the club may now approach a sporting director who built a Champions League-winning team and can hire him for free.
