Heart and Hand blown away by Todd Cantwell moment of magic in Rangers win v St Mirren

Heart and Hand have waxed lyrical about the role Rangers attacker Todd Cantwell played in Scott Arfield’s late goal against St Mirren on Saturday (15 April).

Despite twice going ahead and being pegged back, Michael Beale’s side came through eventual 5-2 victors at Ibrox, thanks to a late Alfredo Morelos brace and Arfield’s goal.

The architect of the final goal of the afternoon was Cantwell, who went on a mazy run before slipping through a disguised pass for his teammate Arfield to apply the finishing touch.

Taking to Twitter, Heart and Hand podcast tweeted: “A brilliant Rangers fifth from Scott Arfield but Todd Cantwell take a bow.

“Beat four men, slid it through and Scottie with the cool finish.”

Faultless

After struggling down at Norwich City over the last couple of seasons, the move to Rangers seems to have ignited Cantwell’s career back to life.

The playmaker has been one of Beale’s standout performers over the last couple of months, but his showing against St Mirren was next level.

After the Gers were pegged back to 2-2 in the second half it was Cantwell who took the game into his own hands and started pulling the strings to great effect.

The build-up play for Rangers’ fifth goal was quite simply outstanding and one which will be remembered by the Ibrox faithful for a long time to come.

Cantwell’s ability to carry the ball precisely in tight areas of space always has been one of his strongest attributes, and it seems that despite going on a two-year hiatus at Carrow Road, he has found a new home at Ibrox.

At just 25, Beale will hope that this season is just the first chapter of Cantwell’s book at Rangers.

In other Rangers news, the club may now approach a sporting director who built a Champions League-winning team and can hire him for free.
