Chris Sutton takes another swipe live on BT Sport at Todd Cantwell and James Tavernier after Rangers 3-2 loss v Celtic

Chris Sutton has taken another swipe at Todd Cantwell and James Tavernier after Rangers were beaten 3-2 by Celtic, but Ally McCoist bit back immediately on BT Sport.

The former Celtic striker has had a war of words with Cantwell all week after the midfielder claimed Rangers lost the game rather than Celtic winning it.

And while appearing on BT Sport Scottish Football Extra (14 April, 18:29) he took another swipe claiming that Rangers won the “moral victory cup” before taking a shot at the captain too before McCoist stepped in and labelled him “embarrassing”.

Rangers

“They won the moral victory cup didn’t they, but did they win?” Sutton said.

“Todd Cantwell said that Celtic didn’t win, that Rangers lost then my favourite bit of the whole weekend, Tavsy. 100 goal Tavsy comparing himself to Kylian Mbappe.

“Can you make that up? You couldn’t make it up could you. What a weekend!”

“I’ve got to be honest with you, for a man that picked a draw the way you’re basking in the glory is embarrassing by the way. Absolutely embarrassing,” McCoist replied.

What a muppet

Sutton loves to poke the bear and then cry wolf when it bites back, and that’s what has happened all week since that Old Firm game.

The team was nowhere near good enough to win the game and no Rangers fan has said otherwise, but Cantwell’s comments ring true because of the nature of the goals that Celtic scored in the game.

McCoist rightly put him in place, and considering Sutton is constantly criticising people for sitting on the fence or believing that Rangers are even a half decent team, it’s hilarious that he took that stance.

Celtic are going to win the title, but at this point there would be nothing better than getting one over them at Hampden in a couple of weeks to shut them and shut him up.

A cup win would be the bare minimum for the season and put us on track for the new season too, but more than anything it would be a reason to get back at Sutton for all his talk this season.

In other Rangers news, the club have made contact with their preferred candidate to replace Ross Wilson.
