Alan Hutton wowed by ‘Superman’ moment from Todd Cantwell in Rangers win v St Mirren

Alan Hutton was stunned by the “Superman” effort from Todd Cantwell to set up an Alfredo Morelos goal as Rangers beat St Mirren 5-2 on Saturday (15 April).

The midfielder assisted his club’s third goal of the game as Morelos scored his first of the day at Ibrox, with the Colombian netting another just two minutes later.

Cantwell scored Rangers’ first goal of the game, with Fashion Sakala and Scott Arfield also scoring as Mark O’Hara netted a brace for the visitors.

“The ball is worked out to Tavernier on the right-hand side,” Hutton said live on BT Sport Score. “Puts a lovely cross into the box and Todd Cantwell just flings himself at it, it was like Superman or something, just knocks it to the back post.

“And Morelos is just goal hanging, takes a touch and blasts it into the back of the net. It’s all made by that flick on by Todd Cantwell.”

Top performance

The seven-goal thriller will have pleased many fans watching on inside Ibrox, with the hosts shaky at the back but superb going forward.

And their star of the day was undoubtedly Cantwell, who opened the scoring in the 26th minute, before assisting both Morelos and Arfield late on.

It was definitely one of his best matches in a Rangers shirt, with Cantwell now a firm figure in Michael Beale’s starting XI after being eased into the side following his January switch to Scotland.

With many of his teammates playing for their futures at Ibrox, it seems clear that the former Norwich man will be a key player for the Gers next season.

Cantwell showed immense potential when he first burst onto the scene for the Canaries, potential which sadly started to disappear as the years went on.

But the midfielder is now enjoying his football once again and looks a real threat for the Glasgow outfit.

In other Rangers news, Michael Beale has revealed the Gers are “speaking” to potential transfer targets as the Light Blues’ boss gets set for a busy summer of recruitment.
