Rangers speaking to transfer targets as Michael Beale drops Ibrox update

Michael Beale has revealed Rangers are “speaking” to potential transfer targets as the Light Blues’ boss gets set for a busy summer of recruitment.

The Gers have had to deal with the departure of Ross Wilson after the former Southampton man was confirmed as Nottingham Forest’s new chief football officer.

Despite the sporting director’s departure, the Rangers boss confirmed he is “happy” with where the club’s recruitment preparations are currently at.

“There are targets we are speaking to, I won’t give you the details but I am confident and happy with where things are,” said Beale (Rangers official Twitter, 14 April).

Good news

It seems as if Beale is content with where his preparation is at and the departure of Wilson will potentially give the 42-year-old a little bit more control when it comes to the club’s summer business.

He’s made a positive start with Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell joining in the January window and players of a similar calibre will have to arrive during the off-season if the Gers want to finally get up to Celtic’s level and consistently compete with Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Rangers

Rangers’ next appointment will be an interesting one. Do they look to replace Wilson by looking elsewhere or do they look to within the club?

John Park would be the obvious choice. The former Celtic man worked wonders and Parkhead and also oversaw an impressive group at Hibernian. Considering the work he’s done previously, he certainly fits the bill.

Beale seems to be content steering the ship for the time being, but an appointment should be made sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, the club may now approach a sporting director who built a Champions League-winning team and can hire him for free.
