Ross Wilson now has more control over destiny of potential Rangers transfer at Nottingham Forest

Rangers have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest sensation Jonathan Panzo – and the Gers could use Ross Wilson to their advantage.

The Daily Record reported on 22 March that Rangers were running the rule over the 22-year-old defender, who has been a “standout” performer for the Sky Blues during the 2022/23 season.

It remains to be seen whether Panzo will be sent back out on loan next season, but the Light Blues could get back in contact with Wilson to get a deal over the line.

Wilson was announced as Forest’s chief football officer on Wednesday evening (12 April), leaving his role at Rangers after three-and-a-half years at the club.

The Gers’ interest in Panzo pre-dated Wilson’s move to Forest, which could now give the Light Blues the advantage when it comes to landing the defender. Let’s hope the former sporting director fancies helping his old employers out.

There’s a strong chance the former Rangers chief could have a big say in where the 22-year-old plays his football come the start of the 2023/24 season.

Another central defender could well be required for the Gers. Filip Helander has been absent during the 2022/23 season and could well be set to depart the club in the summer. Connor Goldson and Ben Davies are Michael Beale’s preferred partnership, with John Souttar and Leon King as backup.

King could well be set for a loan spell away from Ibrox due to his lack of gametime and that could open the door for Panzo to join the club.

It’s clear what type of player Beale is trying to recruit, with young and hungry Championship talent top of his agenda. With Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin, he’s made an encouraging start, it’s absolutely vital that the impressive January window is followed up in the summer.

In other Rangers news, Wilson’s replacement could already be in Glasgow.
