Rangers journalist calls for Robby McCrorie to start in goal in remaining SPFL games

Michael Beale has been told to give goalkeeper Robby McCrorie an opportunity in goal for the final SPFL games Rangers play this season.

McCrorie has only made two first-team appearances for the club despite coming through the academy, with one of them being a clean sheet in an Old Firm derby win over Celtic in August 2021.

Beale has claimed that he hopes to give the 25-year-old an opportunity before the end of the season once he has recovered from injury, and journalist Derek Clark has now claimed he should get that chance in all of the upcoming league games.

“With St Mirren the visitors to Ibrox on Saturday (15 April) followed by a trip to Pittodrie before the Old Firm semi-final, it remains to be seen if the Rangers manager will tinker with his goalkeeper,” he wrote.

“Whatever happens at Hampden, McCrorie must be afforded an opportunity for some, if not all of the five games post-split.”

Opportunity

We already know that Jon McLaughlin is not good enough to be Rangers number one in the long-term, and at some point the club has to move on from Allan McGregor.

But whether we need to go out and buy a new goalkeeper or if we already have the answer under our noses won’t be known until McCrorie is given a chance to prove himself.

The cup semi-final absolutely has to take priority over the league now after the loss to Celtic last weekend, because the title is beyond us. So what better time for McCrorie to get a run in the team?

He’ll come up against the better sides in the division, including Celtic in a game that will mean nothing other than pride and bragging rights, so it’ll be a good way to see if he can cope and play the way Beale wants the team to.

It would be silly not to use this chance to give him a run of fixtures with such a busy summer window ahead of us, and it will show if Beale is all talk or actually means it when he says he wants to give everyone a chance.

In other Rangers news, the club want to repeat a successful formula to sign another hotshot attacker on loan this summer.
