Former Tottenham Hotspur chief Paul Mitchell mooted to be successor to Ross Wilson at Rangers

Rangers have been linked with a move for ex-Tottenham Hotspur head of recruitment Paul Mitchell as Ross Wilson has left the club.

Nottingham Forest announced the appointment of Wilson this past week and Gers now have a vacancy in the director of football role.

The Scotsman [13 April] claim that Mitchell is one who’s already interviewed for the role in 2017 and could be an option to re-explore given the fact that he’s leaving Monaco in the summer.

Good move

Mitchell is a high-profile operator in the European game and he’s likely to be on the radar of many other big clubs as well.

Sky Sports reported in 2019 that Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea were all keen on securing his services as they eyed backroom changes.

Mitchell’s work along side Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton and Spurs is what put him on the map to be the best directors in the game.

He brought in Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld at Spurs while he managed to sign Nathaniel Clyne, Maya Yoshida, Paulo Gazzaniga and Gers player Steven Davis at St Mary’s which saw them in the race for European football.

Recruitment is one thing that Wilson failed at during his time at Ibrox and that’s something Mitchell is a master at, so in theory, this sounds like the ideal move for Rangers.

It has been said that he wants to return to the United Kingdom and with none of the top Premier League sides looking at him, it makes sense for the club to attempt to sign him.

In other Rangers news, another Ibrox exit may be on the cards after a major revelation recently which could force the clubs to part ways with a senior player.
