Steven Gerrard reveals Rangers regret amid ‘exciting offer’ to return to work
Steven Gerrard has stated his Rangers regret, in a feature for the League Managers Association magazine.
The Scottish title winning manager admitted that he completely understands the feelings and frustrations of the Rangers supporters, following his departure to Aston Villa in November 2021.
Gerrard lasted just 11 months at Villa Park and is now available for a new role, despite an attractive recent offer.

Reflecting on the sudden change from Glasgow to Birmingham, the Liverpool legend acknowledged the mid-season upheaval that caused a backlash from a section of Gers fans.
“In a perfect world I would never have left that way and I completely understand the frustrations that the club and supporters felt when I left Rangers,” he said.
“In football you have to learn from your mistakes and take strength from success. You have to recharge, wait and be patient for the right moment to return.
“I’ve been offered opportunities to manage at club and international since I left Villa, including an exciting opportunity in an overseas league, but none have been right for me at this time.”

Mutual missed opportunity
Gerrard’s legacy at Rangers is his league title, but unfortunately the club failed to protect that achievement, a landmark 55th Scottish crown for the club.
Due to the club not building a legacy of its own for the 2021 success, it represents a missed mutual opportunity.
Steps should have been taken between both parties to build into the following season, to push on at the top in Scotland as well as to enhance the manager’s position but his reasons for leaving are well documented before now.
What’s done is done, the Gers probably would have won last season’s Premiership but not reached the Europa League final, as was the case under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Now, under Michael Beale, it is imperative that the squad is properly rebuilt to allow a meaningful title push to restore the club back to where it needs to be.
Gerrard’s next job will come around sooner rather than later, in a far from perfect world.
