Rangers complete transfer ‘coup’ as Thompson Ishaka agrees terms at Ibrox
We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Rangers may have sealed a “coup” by signing young Nigerian forward Thompson Ishaka, according to Tam McManus.
It was confirmed by the Light Blues on 31 March that Ishaka, 18, has moved to Ibrox after agreeing terms on a two-year contract.
Ishaka had been on trial at Auchenhowie but had also received admiring glances from Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City, as well as Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven [AllNigeriaSoccer].
McManus has seen some footage of Ishaka playing and he’s impressed with the Nigerian sensation.
He’s set to play for the Gers’ B team but in order to show he’s progressing and is able to have a big price-tag in the future, McManus wants to see Ishaka breaking into the senior squad at Ibrox.
“It seems to be a coup,” McManus told Ibrox News.
“I’ve not seen a lot of him but he’s signed a contract until 2025.
“I’ve seen some clips of him on social media and he looks good.
“It could be a bit of a coup for Rangers if they can get him into the first team.

“I know he’s probably going to be playing with the B team but he’s just got to try and get into the senior team.
“If he does that and he plays, there’ll be some big offers for him.
“If he’s wanted by clubs like [Chelsea and Manchester City], there must be something about him.
“But Rangers will want him to try and get into the first team as quickly as possible.”
Ishaka started for Rangers’ B team in a clash with Celtic B at Ibrox on 2 April, wearing the number seven shirt, before he was substituted off in the 43rd minute.
Celtic B won the controversial Scottish Lowland Football League game 3-1.
In other Rangers news, fans have been blasted and called “maniacs” for a conspiracy theory after an announcement was made by the SFA.
