Rangers: Behind-the-scenes Southampton view on Ross Wilson emerges as Ibrox exit talks start

People at Southampton speak “very highly” of Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson amid a potential switch to Nottingham Forest, according to The Atheltic’s Daniel Taylor.

Premier League outfit Forest are in contact with the Scottish side in a bid to appoint Wilson in a senior football role, Taylor reported on Tuesday (11 April).

Wilson previously worked in senior football roles at Watford, Huddersfield Town and Southampton before becoming Rangers’ sporting director in October 2019.

“Various people in and around Southampton speak very highly of him (and Ralph Hasenhuttl obviously a big fan if you google),” Taylor posted on Twitter.

“Some Rangers fans on mentions with different views – but people I trust seem impressed with him.”

Time to go?

It certainly makes sense that Forest are now doing their utmost to tempt Wilson with a return to England, with the Premier League side undergoing a shake up behind the scenes with the recent sacking of their sporting director Filippo Giraldi.

In terms of both finances and the quality of football, the move would definitely be a step up for Wilson, although Forest do remain in real danger of dropping down to the Championship.

Rangers would certainly miss Wilson, with the club making plenty of important transfer decisions during his spell at Ibrox.

But the Glasgow outfit are set to undergo several changes this summer, the first of which may just be saying goodbye to Wilson and getting another sporting director in as soon as possible.

Forest are in desperate need of someone sensible behind the scenes, and Wilson may just be that person given his rave reviews from the people at Southampton.
