Douglas Park quit Rangers chairman role over ‘shouting and screaming’ fans – pundit
We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Tam McManus believes Douglas Park could have stepped down as Rangers chairman due to the ongoing protests against the board.
It was confirmed on 4 April that Park, 72, resigned as chairman but the official club statement failed to include why the Scottish businessman took the decision.
John Bennett has since replaced Park after a unanimous vote by the board.

Park leaves his role at Rangers amid growing fan protests against the board with Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson taking the brunt of most of the supporters’ concerns.
McManus believes that Park may have just grown fed up with the anger against some of his allies due to the fact that he’d overseen a major improvement at Ibrox.
Speaking to Ibrox News, McManus said: “I don’t think there was behind-the-scenes pressure but maybe the supporters [applied the pressure].
“There were a lot of protests at games and a lot of his board members and friends had been getting abuse.
“Park was probably annoyed with that because he put a lot of money into the club. That’ll be annoying and frustrating for him to see those fan protests when up until this season, they’d been doing pretty well.

“Park probably had enough of it and couldn’t be bothered to turn up to games to people shouting and screaming and seeing banners.
“He probably just wants an easy life and I don’t blame him.”
Park became the Gers’ chairman at the end of March 2020 when COVID had forced the UK into lockdown.
Not only did he navigate through that testing period, but he also saw the club win their 55th league title, ending Celtic’s 10-in-a-row hopes and a Europa League final.
In other Rangers news, fans have been blasted and called “maniacs” for a conspiracy theory after an announcement was made by the SFA.
