Ross Wilson role starts to become redundant at Rangers as official update emerges
Rangers boss Michael Beale will have the final say on signings this summer, according to official Rangers partner Four Lads Had A Dream and that could finally make Ross Wilson’s sporting director role at Ibrox redundant
The Gers are set to have a very busy summer window with the manager admitting he is hopeful of bringing in at least five first-team players for next season, while several players are out of contract including key stars Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.
The club also currently have a whopping 33 players as part of their first-team squad, although many of them have been hampered by injuries over the course of the last year which will force the Gers into trying to cut that figure down.
And according to Four Lads Had A Dream [10 April] taking to their personal Twitter account, revealed Beale will have the final say on who comes in and who stays at Ibrox this summer.
The tweeted: “I’ve sat in front of both of them & asked, it was covered at the time here Beale will identify and have final say on all signings. He will work with them to get them in.
“So whilst the team may have an input it was made absolutely clear it is MBs show & everyone is aligned.”
And such a report could well hand Rangers fans the wish they have been wanting for a long time, with Wilson now looking to take on a peripheral role in the Gers rebuild if the club’s official partner’s update is to be true.
Wilson has certainly cut a much-maligned figure in recent months with his past transfer business coming under mounting scrutiny and criticism, especially following the club’s damaging losses to Celtic in recent months – games which highlighted the gulf in class between the two teams and their recruitment policies.
Underneath a tweet by the club’s official account [2 March] featuring Beale’s press conference, supporters attached photos of Wilson and other board members, calling them to be sacked.
The Gers chief also came under scrutiny in December for the club’s transfers, an issue which came to light once again when Beale stated earlier in February that the Gers have too many players on their books and that he’d like to cut the group down by 11 or 12 players this summer, which came as a huge punt at Wilson to cut the squad down.
It has been an embarrassing few years for the club and most of all the fans, who have seen fierce rivals Celtic steal a march on some of Europe’s best unknown quantities and ultimately dominate the Light Blues in the Scottish Premiership as a result.

With a major rebuild on the way, in the attacking and defensive department as well as a potential new long-term goalkeeper, Wilson can no longer be trusted to take the lead of incomings and outgoings this summer. Those responsibilities should fall on Beale and his team’s shoulders as they plot a route to close the gap on Celtic for next season.
The club can no longer afford to miss out on signing potential gems with their Old Firm rivals now looking more advanced, complete and street-smart with their own recruitment policies and transfer dealings.
It may be time for Wilson to call it quits due to his upcoming limited role and for the Gers to get in someone more competent and resourceful with the Sporting Director role.
Maybe Beale should take the role of both manager and sporting director after the club’s official partner’s update.
