Rangers news as big decision ahead of future of Ryan Kent after Celtic defeat

Brian Laudrup has suggested that the end may be near for Rangers winger Ryan Kent and his spell at Ibrox after the latest 3-2 defeat against Celtic.

Writing in his column for the Scottish Daily Mail [11 April, pg 68 & 69], the Great Dane insisted that there is a big decision to make for the club and the player.

Kent is in the final months of his deal in Govan and there is now a possibility that he walks away for nothing alongside the likes of Alfredo Morelos.

He wrote: “He isn’t anywhere near it. At least not when it comes to scoring. The Ibrox player has three goals and ten assists overall. Is it enough?

“I don’t know what’s going to happen with his contract. Maybe he’ll sign up and stay. I’ve always said the talent is there. On his day, he is a tremendous player.

“But being a consistent, game-changing force is still something that eludes him at the age of 26. Both he and Rangers have a big decision to make. You do wonder if the end might be approaching. Time will tell.”

Time to go?

Saturday’s Old Firm clash at Parkhead underlined the dilemma that Rangers face in regard to Kent.

Whilst Michael Beale is known to be an admirer of the attacker, how can he pin his hopes on him for future seasons when he can’t be relied upon when it matters in the big games.

Kent flattered to deceive at key moments in the game, when the opportunity was there to make a direct impact. He really struggles with indecision on the ball, leading to wasted chances and overall, he is not delivering.

Ibrox legend Laudrup is spot on to highlight the attacker’s inconsistency, especially following a game where Celtic’s main front men, Jota and Kyogo, delivered whilst Kent as well as Morelos and Malik Tillman fluffed their lines.

Going into a pivotal new season, Rangers have to be able to rely on their firepower and in that regard, the club should be looking in a new direction beyond Kent.
