Pundit fumes after news emerges from controversy during Rangers v Celtic

Barry Ferguson has been raging after news has emerged from the controversial incidents from Rangers v Celtic which ended 3-2 for the league leaders.

Referee Kevin Clancy was criticised for some of the game-changing decisions in the Old Firm clash on Saturday, 8 April and the reaction by select fans has been appalling.

The Scottish FA revealed on 10 April that Clancy had received a lot of abusive messages and his personal and professional contact details were leaked only.

Speaking about this on Go Radio, he said, “That’s very poor if you’re asking my opinion, I don’t like to see that. Listen, I felt he got a few things wrong, but there’s absolutely no need for that sort of behaviour from people.

“He’s only human at the end of the day. I’ve said before, you must be crazy to be a referee with some of the abuse they take.

“They have bad games, and he got some decisions wrong at the weekend, but just with the statement you’ve read out there, it’s not right, let’s be honest, it’s a disgrace.”

Disgusting

Nobody disagrees that Clancy did not have a good game, but the reaction to it has been outrageous, toxic and appalling.

Fans cannot take matters into their own hands and dox a professional just because he’s had one bad day at work.

He did not intentionally cost Rangers the game and fans need to know that they’re not entitled to cross the line whenever they think fit.

The reason why the standard of refereeing is so poor is because there are so few people actually keen on taking it up professionally.

This is going to leave a scar on Clancy whenever he’s handed high-profile games in the future and that’s not how things should be.

No matter the disagreements, he’s still among the top officials in the league and there are no guarantees that the ones coming up the ranks are going to be any better.

The fans that have leaked his data and have contacted him to abuse him must be taken to task as there should be no place for such things in the game.

In other Rangers news, another Ibrox exit may be on the cards after a major revelation recently which could force the clubs to part ways with a senior player.
