Rangers: Chris Sutton lords it over Todd Cantwell with mocking social media meme after Celtic jibe denial

Chris Sutton has continued mocking Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell following the defeat to Celtic, posting a meme in response to the midfielder’s latest comments.

The former Norwich man had posted on his Instagram following the 3-2 defeat at Parkhead on Saturday (8 April) that the Gers had lost the game rather than the Hoops having won it, after two errors gave away two second-half goals. Something which fellow ex-Canary Sutton had already scoffed at on Twitter.

But after the Ibrox man had responded to Football Scotland calling his original comments a “jibe” by denying it was so and stating a need to “always respect your opponents” Sutton has again chimed in to make fun of him.

Posting on Twitter in response to the Gers midfielder Sutton put the Homer Simpson meme that sees him withdrawing into a hedge.

Frustrated

Not that Sutton cares because he likes nothing more than to wind up a rival wherever possible but Cantwell’s response could just as easily be read as sarcastic rather than rowing back on his position.

He is rightly frustrated by an Old Firm derby defeat that was as much the product of Gers errors than sparkling Celtic play.

Notwithstanding the disallowed Alfredo Morelos goal that would have put the visitors ahead in the first half, James Tavernier’s 99th and 100th strikes for the club would have been enough for the points were it not for dreadful errors from both Ben Davies and John Souttar after the break.

Rangers
Chris Sutton has been a vocal critic of Rangers.

Cantwell hasn’t deleted his original Instagram post so he clearly stands by what he said, meaning the Simpsons meme is probably not completely accurate.

But it does seem that the January signing, who himself started the derby excellently but faded as the game went on, will remain a favourite target for Sutton, as both an ex-Norwich and current Rangers player.

The pundit can enjoy the victory now, and the inevitable title win that is sure to follow, but there was certainly enough on Saturday to suggest that Beale has his side closer to Ange Postecoglou’s than the Viaplay Cup final indicated, and the Scottish Cup semi on 30 April cannot come soon enough now.

In other Rangers news, one Ibrox ace who looks to be on the brink of an exit has raved about a club he would like to go to.
