Andy Walker mind blown by Rangers captain James Tavernier live on Sky Sports after brilliant free-kick v Celtic
Andy Walker was left mind blown by James Tavernier’s “absolutely brilliant” free-kick for Rangers in the Old Firm derby against Celtic on Saturday (8 April).
After falling behind to Kyogo Furuhashi’s poachers finish in the 26th minute of the clash Celtic Park, Michael Beale’s side drew level thanks to a piece of individual magic from their captain.
Taking a central free-kick from just outside the area, Tavernier curled home a powerful strike past Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart, who never had any chance of keeping it out of the back of his net.

Speaking live on Sky Sports (8 April, 1:17pm), Walker waxed lyrical about the stunning strike from the Gers captain.
“I think the fact it is a yard or two from the post, I know it comes off the underside of the bar, he made just a slight adjustment to his left hand side Joe Hart,” he said.
“But it’s absolutely brilliant. You talk about the pace on it, the action on it, the power he had on it.
“Absolutely everything controlled. But look where it goes, it’s a good couple of yards from the goal.”

Wow
Tavernier has been well regarded for his goalscoring heroics in the past, but few have been as special as this strike.
Considering the enormity of the occasion and the fact the Gers were a goal down in a hostile atmosphere at Celtic Park, the free-kick was made that bit more special.
The 31-year-old couldn’t have placed the ball down in a more favourable position to take the free-kick but he still had to deliver the goods with the shot.
The pace, whip and power that the Gers captain hit the ball with was quite astonishing and highlighted why Tavernier is so highly regarded within Ibrox.
Few defenders around Europe have the technical ability that Tavernier possess, and this moment of magic will be remembered for many years to come.
Teams across the Scottish Premiership should be wary of giving Rangers any chances from set-pieces considering Tavernier’s remarkable record from such positions.
Wow, what a stunner.
