Rangers want to sign Greek goalkeeper Sokratis Dioudis on free transfer – Georgios Sideridis
Rangers are monitoring Greece international goalkeeper Sokratis Dioudis as a potential free transfer signing for the summer window, according to Georgios Sideridis.
The Gers are expected to enter the transfer market for a new shot stopper with Allan McGregor expected to retire, while Jon McLaughlin has yet to prove he is capable of being the number one at Ibrox.
Angus Gunn has been linked with a move north of the border, but the club are also said to be monitoring current Zaglebie Lubin ‘keeper Dioudis ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.
“Glasgow Rangers are monitoring the Greek GK’s case from Zaglebie Lubin, Sokratis Dioudis,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (7 April).
“Dioudis joined Zaglebie Lubin in January on a free transfer from Panathinaikos. His contract expires in June 2023.”
Options
Dioudis is hardly the shiniest name in the new toy box for Rangers fans, and he would definitely be a left-field option to come in as a new goalkeeper at Ibrox.
The 30-year-old stands at 6ft 2′ tall and has been capped twice by the Greece national team, but he’s never been someone who has broken out of the local limelight really.

The goalkeeper position is one that Rangers cannot afford to get wrong next season with a new number one needed, but it is vital that they’re ready to come into the team immediately to make a difference.
He needs to be able to command his area, organise from the back and make big saves when necessary because for the majority of the time on the pitch Rangers have the ball.
Angus Gunn seems like a far more sensible and reasonable option to come in, but obviously we need to have back-up options and it seems like Dioudis is exactly that.
