Alfredo Morelos to exit Rangers as BBC journalist shares Ibrox update

BBC Sport reporter Kenny Macintyre has suggested Alfredo Morelos is set to depart Rangers with the Colombian not part of Michael Beale’s plans.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has yet to agree a new deal with the Scottish giants.

Talking on the Scottish Football Podcast, Macintyre claims he has been told the striker is set to depart when the 2022/23 season comes to a close.

“Morelos, I am told, he’s gone. The manager doesn’t see him as part of his plans,” said Macintyre (Scottish Football Podcast, 8m 25s, 6 April).

On the cards

It does feel like Morelos’ time with Rangers is reaching its conclusion. The fact a new deal hasn’t been signed all but confirms he will be leaving the club at the end of the campaign. He’s been with the Gers for a long time and is probably eager to test himself at a higher level whilst he is still in his prime.

It’s hard to begrudge him a move elsewhere. He’s been an excellent servant and considering the minuscule fee he was signed for, he’s proven to be an excellent addition.

There will be some who are frustrated by the manner of his departure, but, unfortunately, that’s how the modern-day game works. It’s a business for clubs, players and agents and if there’s a better deal available elsewhere, the striker will almost certainly take it.

He has improved under Beale but the off the field uncertainly has played its part. The former QPR boss will now be hoping to land an adequate replacement during the off-season.

In other Rangers news, a new midfield target has emerged following failed transfer negotiations this week.
