UEFA reveals Rangers 21/22 Europa League prize money as Gers scoop massive fee after final heartbreak

Rangers were awarded a total of £18.1million for their Europa League run last season, according to the Glasgow Times.

The Gers made it all the way to the final of the 2021/22 competition, losing out on penalties to German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in Sevilla in May.

Scottish rivals Celtic earned £9.2million from their European campaign last time out, when they were eliminated from all three competitions.

“UEFA’s financial report for last season reveals how they distributed their prize money with each club receiving a starting fee to play in the competition, along with money for wins and draws and further funds due to the TV market poll, the team’s coefficient standing and subsequent progress,” according to the Glasgow Times.

“And Rangers’ final prize fund saw them receive £3.15million from the starting fee, £800,000 for their coefficient, £2.5million for their TV market pool, £2.1million for their group stage performance, £430,000 for their knockout round win, £1.05million for their Round of 16, £1.5million for their quarter-final success, £2.45million for their semi-final win and £4million for being runners-up.

“Additionally, each club received more money with UEFA’s Europa League surplus share pushing Rangers’ tally up to £18.1million.”

Massive boost

Rangers will, of course, still be gutted after losing out on the major trophy in May, particularly given how they lost so cruelly in a penalty shoot-out.

But the latest news from UEFA will certainly lift spirits around Ibrox, with the huge fee set to be welcomed with open arms as the club look to recruit new players in the summer.

The £18.1million figure alone is enough to put a smile on the face of everyone connected to Rangers, but the fact it is double of what fierce rivals Celtic received for their European pursuits is an added bonus.

That will definitely give Rangers fans something to brag about ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic on Saturday (8 April).

The positive news will continue for the Gers as they can expect another massive financial boost for their Champions League venture this season, despite not making it out of their group.

In other Rangers news, John Hartson believes that Celtic can start celebrating their title win if they manage to pick up three points against the Gers this weekend.
