Financial troubles throw doubt on Alfredo Morelos transfer to Sevilla from Rangers

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ transfer to Sevilla is under threat amid financial troubles at the Spanish club, according to a report by Fichajes.net.

The Colombian is out of contract this summer at Ibrox and is expected to leave at the end of the season with Michael Beale admitting no offer has been made yet to keep him.

Sevilla are among the clubs most interested in taking him away from Rangers, but a report claims they are currently having financial troubles and must sell players before they’re able to sign anyone – even on a free transfer.

“Sevilla has big financial problems despite the sales it has made in recent seasons and this makes signing quite complicated given that you also have to comply with the salary limit imposed by the League, something that is currently exceeded and that complicates it,” they wrote (5 April).

“Despite this, Monchi is working to lighten both the debt and the wage bill. If he succeeds, Alfredo Morelos will be the first to arrive.”

Saga

This whole saga is getting boring already and we’re only just into April.

Morelos has been linked with a move away from Rangers for years, but it seems more real than ever now and most fans aren’t completely against it either.

Despite his fantastic goal record at the club, he has struggled this season with fitness and attitude and his performances are not what they once were.

Michael Beale clearly wants something specific in that area of the pitch and Morelos just doesn’t offer it, so signing him to a new contract would just be bizarre.

Not getting a fee for him is a blow for sure, but whether it’s Sevilla, Turkey or somewhere else, it seems inevitable that Morelos won’t be at Ibrox next season and it’s probably the best decision for everyone involved.

We wish him the best beyond the season, but he still has a job to do between now and June and he can help us to lift another Scottish Cup trophy as well as make Celtic’s title less one-sided too, starting at Parkhead this weekend.

In other Rangers news, a new midfield target has emerged following failed transfer negotiations this week.
