John Bennett must solve £70m+ Ibrox issue after Tuesday Rangers development
So, Douglas Park’s reign as chairman of Rangers has reached its conclusion with John Bennett the new man to spearhead decision-making at Ibrox.
The urge for change at the top of the club has grown in recent weeks with the fanbase making their feelings heard before the 4-2 win over Motherwell. Their wishes have been granted with change now afoot at the very top of the club after Park’s departure on Tuesday (4 April).
Many will hope this is part of a wider rebuild, but only time will tell if his exit has a longer-lasting impact on the Gers’ fortunes. It certainly won’t be a case of the club miraculously signing talented players and seeing academy prospects come through the system regularly – there are far greater concerns which must be addressed.

The Herald’s Chris Jack revealed (10 November) that Rangers still owe £78million to investors, after the board released their annual accounts. As much as we would all like money to be spent on the pitch, there’s background work that Bennett must deal with first.
People need to be paid and the club cannot look forward until these debts are cleared. Once the Gers’ accounts have a clean bill of health, they stand a chance of making significant progress on the pitch.

The blue side of Glasgow is judged on how they shape up against Celtic and urgent decision-making is now required to prevent Ange Postecoglou’s men from becoming the truly dominant force within Scottish football.
This season hasn’t gone to plan and now it’s up to Bennett to ensure the 2023/24 campaign doesn’t follow a similar path.
In other Rangers news, another Ibrox exit may be on the cards after a major revelation last week which could force the clubs to part ways with a senior player.
