Rangers to wave goodbye to over £5m after stubborn decision
Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a move to the Premier League – and Rangers’ failure to cash in during the January window could be an expensive mistake.
Ross Wilson confirmed in December 2022 (The Times, 6 December) that the club had turned down offers for the 26-year-old. Furthermore, there were strong reports from Spain suggesting Sevilla had made a £7million offer for the Colombian striker during the 2022 summer window (Estadio Deportivo, 22 June, 2022).
Morelos has since remained at the club during the 2022/23 campaign and has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. Now, TEAMtalk claim (4 April) that Crystal Palace, Everton and Wolves are all eying a move for the soon-to-be free agent.

The interest was evidently there during the January window, so why did Wilson feel the need to keep hold of the forward?
Yes, he’s been impressive under Michael Beale, but he’s clearly not going to sign a new deal with the club. Considering he was worth in the region of £7million in 2022, his January 2023 value would have been in and around the £5million-plus range.
The board should have been proactive in their work, particularly with the number of Premier League clubs who are reportedly interested in his services. Negotiations over a fee could have taken place to ensure any potential suitor jumps to the front of the queue.

Now there is a genuine possibility that Rangers miss out on £5million-plus for the striker. The January window was a golden chance passed up by Wilson.
As for Morelos, it will be intriguing to see how he fairs in the Premier League if he does make the move south. England’s top flight can be a daunting place and he’s yet to prove whether he has the ability to mix it with some of the World’s best.
In other Rangers news, a development at Ibrox worth nearly £2million to the club has come out on Monday evening
