Rangers send scouts to watch Aris winger Luis Palma v Olympiacos

Rangers have sent scouts to the Greek league to watch Aris winger Luis Palma in action against Olympiacos, according to the reliable Georgios Sideridis.

The Gers are keen to bolster their squad next season, with manager Michael Beale admitting he is hopeful of at least five additions during the summer transfer window.

And after travelling to Greece for the big derby game between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in February, the club are now returning again for another scouting mission but with a new target on the horizon.

“Rangers’ scouts will be again on Karaiskakis Stadium to watch Olympiacos against Aris,” the journalist wrote on his personal Twitter account (2 April).

“The scouts of the Scottish side will keep an eye on Aris’ 23yo player, Luis Palma.”

Interesting

Rangers obviously have to shop in a different market to much of Europe, and the way Celtic have managed to monopolise the Asian market is something Rangers are clearly keen to do with some small European nations.

Last time out they watched Dimitris Kourbelis, Fotis Ioannidis and In-Beom Hwang but Palma is a different profile to all of those options and would be an interesting signing.

Rangers

An article by Left Back Football (October 2022) called him an “impeccable” player with great passing and dribbling qualities who can play across the entire front line.

That sounds eerily similar to the profile of a certain Ryan Kent, who is not guaranteed to be at Ibrox next season considering his contract situation.

This could be a coincidence or cover for him, but Beale also recently stated that decisions have already been made on the future of players for next season.

It would be a gamble, but it would likely not be the most expensive deal and Beale’s record in the market so far is solid so he deserves to be trusted for it.
