Ross Wilson under glaring spotlight over Malik Tillman signing after brace in Rangers v Dundee United

If Ross Wilson already thought he was under severe pressure to secure the permanent signing of Malik Tillman in the summer, the scrutiny on the Rangers sporting director may now have reached boiling point.

Prior to the 2-0 win against Dundee United on Saturday (1 April) – in which Tillman netted a superb brace – Michael Beale revealed that Wilson was “away in the background speaking to Bayern” in regards to securing the midfielder’s permanent services in the summer. [The Rangers Review]

The Gers manager went on to confirm that the Glasgow club wanted to activate the buy clause in his contract – and on the evidence of his performance on Saturday, this should be Wilson’s first priority in the summer.

The 20-year-old, who is on a season-long loan at Ibrox from the German giants, scored both of Rangers’ goals in a somewhat underwhelming, but ultimately effective win in the Scottish Premiership.

Tillman’s brace took his tally to ten goals for the season and further highlighted how he could be a huge figure for Rangers in the long-term future.

BILD journalist Christian Falk claimed that the Gers have the option to buy the playmaker for £6.2million in the summer, however, the club have yet to show any clear indication of triggering this option yet. (Fabrizio Romano’s Substack for Caught Offside, 17 February)

If Beale’s words are true and Wilson is currently in talks with Bayern Munich about his permanent transfer, he simply cannot fail in his hunt for the influential first-team star.

A total of 14 goal contributions from 25 appearances this season underlines the importance of Tillman to Beale’s long-term vision, with the Bayern loanee and Todd Cantwell helping the Gers reach new levels in recent weeks.

And if Rangers wish to close the gap to Ange Postecoglou’s winning machine at Celtic, the United States international could be a crucial piece of the puzzle.

The spotlight is well and truly on Wilson to deliver the goods over the coming months, and he can get the fanbase back on his side by completing the permanent signing of Tillman.

In other Rangers news, another Ibrox exit may be on the cards after a major revelation last week which could force the clubs to part ways with a senior player.
