Ryan Jack back from Rangers oblivion after Champions League incident, new deal surely close

Ryan Jack has been a constant fixture for Rangers under Michael Beale – and it’s been some turnaround for the 31-year-old midfielder.

Jack has featured for the full duration of the Gers’ last three Scottish Premiership fixtures and could well be playing his way to a new deal.

Back in November, the midfielder’s career at Ibrox looked in tatters. Jack sustained a calf injury during the Light Blues’ Champions League humiliation to Liverpool, and the incident looked like it could well be a fatal blow to his Ibrox career – with his contract set to expire in the summer.

However, his rejuvenation under Beale has been mightily impressive. Furthermore, he’s managed to stay fit for a considerable period of time, which could see the midfielder extend his Ibrox stay.

This summer promises to be a significant one in the club’s history, with a squad overhaul required to close the ever-expanding gap to Celtic.

Beale will be keen to add younger players to his squad, like Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell. However, it’s essential he retains some sort of experience.

He needs players he can trust and Jack’s renaissance means he should be one of the senior players who earns a new deal.

It’s all well and good-looking to land up-and-coming players, but experience is certainly required to steer these prospects in the right direction.

Raskin, for example, will benefit immensely from having Jack next to him. Let’s hope the board move quickly to get the senior midfielder tied down to a new contract.

In other Rangers news, the club have had to pay a total of £21million to two men who were instrumental in what happened 10 years ago.
