Rangers TV pundit: Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay would be ‘amazing’ at Ibrox
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay would be an “amazing” signing for Rangers, according to TV pundit Craig Moore.
The marauding midfielder has just enjoyed a superb international break in which he scored four goals in just two matches for Scotland, most notably a terrific double against Spain on Tuesday [28 March].
The Scottish hero has endured a tougher season at Old Trafford, however, playing second-fiddle to Casemiro in Erik ten Hag’s midfield and the box-to-box star who’s featured over 200 times for Manchester United has been linked with a £25m [Football Insider, 19 February] move away this summer.

BBC pundit Paul Parker believes the midfield ace would be a good fit under Michael Beale, which has now been relayed by Rangers TV pundit Moore, who believes McTominay’s “physicality” and “presence” would be great at Ibrox.
Speaking to Go Radio Football Show [29 March], he said: “He would be amazing for Rangers. He has physicality and a presence. He does the simple things well. He’s not a fancy player but he does the basics very well.
“He’s obviously a wonderful professional because you don’t spend that length of time at Manchester United without being a fantastic professional.
“I don’t know what Rangers are looking at but to see someone like McTominay and it would only be a loan because that’s the only way a deal would be possible – would be great. But Man United would probably swallow a large part of that bill.
“It would make more sense, the loan scenario, being in Scotland and if it was Rangers domestically, Man United don’t want to strengthen their competitors.”
Great addition
With the likes of Ryan Jack and John Lundstrum entering their twilight years at Ibrox, Beale making a move for the dynamism and energy of McTominay to bolster his midfield makes ideal sense for the Light Blues.
The 26-year-old hasn’t featured regularly for Manchester United because of Casemiro’s presence and quality in the same position but the Scottish headliner would fit in seamlessly alongside Nicolas Raskin or Lundstram at Ibrox.

However, it is unlikely that the Gers will spend above £20m for the midfielder as they have not got that kind of money, even if Beale is preparing to revamp his squad this summer.
As Moore states, a loan move makes ideal sense for both the player and Rangers but not so much for Manchester United who will be looking for a sale to adhere to FFP rules and bolster their own squad significantly too.
Maybe, it will be more beneficial for the Gers to seek out more reasonable and realistic targets rather than wasting their time pursuing a big-money signing which could hurt their financial stability.
