Rangers to land bargain Angus Gunn deal amid March development

Rangers have been linked with a move for Scotland international Angus Gunn – and the 27-year-old would be a bargain buy if Ross Wilson snaps him up.

The Norwich shot-stopper has enjoyed an excellent end of the month with back-to-back clean sheets for the national side, which involved a historic win over Spain on Tuesday (28 March).

Rangers have been linked with a move for Gunn, who is out of contract at Carrow Road in the summer of 2025. The US Sun (12 February) claim he has a value of £3million and considering his age and current performance level, this is a no-brainer for the board.

Allan McGregor has been a constant for the Gers for a number of years, but will almost certainly call it a day at the end of the 2022/23 season. A long-term replacement is required and Michael Beale will have a new shot-stopper near the top of his shopping list when the season does reach its conclusion.

Many will advocate for Jon McLaughlin to be given the chance to impress, but his recent performances won’t have filled anybody with much confidence. McLaughlin is 35 and is well past his best; despite his contract running until 2024, he should be moved on this summer.

With Gunn only 27, there’s the chance for the club to rectify their goalkeeping problem with a younger alternative who has the personality to operate in such a pressurised position; his recent international heroics prove this.

There’s still plenty of play for between now and the end of the season, but Beale will undoubtedly have one eye on the summer, and after Gunn’s latest performances, he’s a player who should be on the mind of the Rangers boss.
