Rangers official partner slams SPFL as £200m-a-year news emerges from England
Rangers’ official partner The Hand and Heart Podcast has slammed the SPFL after news of a new £200million EFL broadcasting deal emerged.
The Times claim (29 March) DAZN aim to bring an end to the 3pm blackout in England and stream all 1,656 matches from the Championship, League One and League Two.
It’s believed the EFL are looking to secure upwards of £200million a year from the new deal, and this has led Rangers’ official partner to slam the current broadcasting agreement in place in Scotland.
“By the time the SPFL deal expires in 2029 it’ll look like something from another era,” they wrote (via Twitter, 29 March).
Different world
The difference in broadcasting revenue between England and Scotland is one of the main reasons why the domestic game lacks behind – It’s on a different planet.
English football is a global attraction and it’s up to the decision-makers at the top of the Scottish game to change the current trajectory. Rangers and Celtic are the only talking points for fans outside the country. A more competitive league and higher standard of players would be an excellent place to start.

People from all over the world need to be drawn into watching. The duopoly in the Scottish Premiership doesn’t help.
Potentially expanding the league and allowing sides to develop younger talents could be a route to go down. Managers are often one or two defeats from feeling the pressure. This can lead to senior professionals being played instead of youth prospects.
The latest news from England should come as a huge wake-up call to the SPFL chiefs. They cannot allow for the gap to some of Europe’s biggest leagues to expand further.
In other Rangers news, a controversial Ibrox figure has been blamed for a “bizarre” episode which likely cost the club millions in transfer revenue.
