Aston Villa join hunt to sign Alfredo Morelos as Rangers star edges closer to Ibrox exit

Aston Villa have joined the hunt to sign Alfredo Morelos with the Rangers forward yet to sign a new deal at Ibrox, according to Takvim.

The Turkish news outlet claim (29 March) Galatasaray want to add the striker to their ranks for the start of the 2022/23 season.

However, it’s believed the Turkish giants now face competition from the billionaire-owned Villans [Forbes] and Spanish side Sevilla.

Inevitable

Morelos’ exit from Rangers is now looking like an inevitability. The Colombian clearly wants to move onto pastures new and would’ve signed a new deal if he was looking to extend his stay at Ibrox.

It would be a crying shame to lose the striker for nothing in the summer. When he was at the height of his value, there’s a chance that Gers could’ve landed a significant fee for the attacker. Nevertheless, he was signed for a minimal amount and has gone on to provide the club with significant service.

Rangers

He’s been impressive under Michael Beale and the Light Blues’ boss will be disappointed to lose him. If Morelos does depart, Beale will have to target a new forward in the summer to come in and make an immediate impact. Whether that can be achieved remains to be seen.

A move to Aston Villa does seem a little bit far-fetched, the 26-year-old is a proven forward in Scotland, but whether that can be translated to the Premier League is up for debate.

In other Rangers news, a controversial Gers ace has been bafflingly held responsible for a “bizarre” episode that surely cost the club millions in the transfer market.
