Rangers can use shareholder to explore commercial market in Asia – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers can grow commercially in Asia if they are looking to exploit the Japanese market in the immediate future.
Stuart Gibson recently became the third-largest shareholder at Ibrox and is based in Japan, which is a growing market within the Scottish game right now, mainly due to transfers elsewhere.
Finance expert, Plumley admitted it makes sense as clubs need to use their shareholders to improve their networks and commercial gains.

“Absolutely,” he exclusively told Ibrox News when asked if this is one to watch.
“It makes sense doesn’t it, we’ve seen loads and loads of clubs go down this road, not just in this market but using the networks you have got. If you have people who are shareholders in your club and are based in that country with networks, it makes sense to use them.
“We know that market is a big football market, we know there is potential to grow and it’s an opportunity for Rangers to grow commercial partners there, it’s an opportunity to gain fans in that region.
“We’ve seen Celtic do it through the market of player acquisition in that region, so we know it works, so it’s no surprise to see Rangers looking at that with the networks they have got and trying to grow commercially in that market.”

Gibson has already admitted that this is a market he has already explored, so it will be one to keep an eye on as time progresses at Ibrox.
After recently becoming the third largest shareholder in the club, Gibson will have inherited more power and say in large areas of the club, something which could help this movement.
In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
