Ryan Jack likely to sign new Rangers contract to extend Ibrox stay beyond summer – Daily Record

Ryan Jack is likely to sign a new deal with Rangers once a formal offer is made to him, according to a new report from the Daily Record (22 March).

The Scotland international is currently out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to be offered a new deal to stay at Ibrox beyond the summer.

But after Michael Beale admitted that he would like to work with Jack in the long-term following his performances since his arrival, it’s now believed that he will pen an extension with other clubs unlikely to be able to prize him away.

“With John Lundstram and Glen Kamara also available, it’s a position Rangers have plenty of depth in but Jack has retained his status as a starter most weeks and that’s not hugely likely to change between now and the summer,” they wrote.

“It’s hard to see another club coming in for him but he’ll have a deal on the table at Ibrox and seems likely to sign it.”

Gamble

While Jack has been in excellent form in recent weeks, especially alongside Nicolas Raskin, there’s no doubt that giving him a new deal will be a gamble.

At 31 years old his best days are probably behind him at this point, and even when he was at the peak of his powers he has always struggled with injuries and fitness problems.

If he can’t be relied upon to be available on a regular basis to play, then surely Rangers and Beale would be better off spending that wage money on someone who can come in and take his spot while staying fit.

With that said, he brings plenty of qualities to the team that nobody else can and when he is fit and available to play there aren’t many better central midfielders in the country.

It’s a gamble and it’s unlikely to be an expensive one, but Rangers have seen these types of decisions back-fire in the past. Here’s hoping it’s a happy-ever-after moment for him and the club rather than a nightmare few years to follow with his extension.

In other Rangers news, the club could get an answer on one contract renewal situation in the coming days.
