Todd Cantwell tipped to thrive in Scotland as Rangers ace wows pundit since £1.5m move

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Tam McManus is impressed by what he’s seen from Todd Cantwell in a Rangers jersey since the Englishman joined from Norwich in the January transfer window.

Cantwell, 25, has played 10 times for the Light Blues in all competitions and scored his first goal for the Ibrox giants on Saturday (18 March) in the 4-2 win away at Motherwell.

As reported by The Times on 20 January, Rangers agreed to pay £1.5million for the former England Under-21 international, who’s now slotted seamlessly into Michael Beale’s plans in Govan.

After he grabbed his first Rangers goal on Saturday, McManus has spoken about Cantwell’s time at Ibrox so far and said how much the ex-Norwich ace will enjoy playing in the Scottish Premiership.

“Cantwell’s done really well,” McManus told Ibrox News.

He came in with a good reputation from his time at Norwich. He played in the Premier League too.

He’s come up here and scored his first goal at the weekend against Motherwell – it was a good finish.

He seems to play in that attacking midfield role and listen, he’s going to enjoy it in Scotland because Rangers dominate the ball.

They play in the opposition’s half for 90 minutes so Cantwell’s going to get plenty of opportunities.

He won’t have to do much defending so I think he’ll enjoy it until he comes up against bigger tests.

He’s done well and he’ll kick on from his goal at the weekend.”

Cantwell should be well-rested by the time Rangers play their next match, which takes place against Dundee United at Ibrox on 1 April.

After that, the Gers will travel to Celtic on 8 April for the first of their final three Old Firm clashes of the season.

In other Rangers news, this Ibrox coach is being tipped to leave Govan for a “big club in England” as managerial speculation emerges south of the border.
