Ridvan Yilmaz now closer to the Rangers exit door after first-half shocker v Motherwell
Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz may now be closer to the Ibrox exit door after his shocking first-half performance against Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday [18 March].
The Turkish left-back joined the club last summer but has barely featured for the first team this season, making just seven appearances in all competitions amid injury problems and behind Borna Barisic in the pecking order.
However, he was rewarded with a start against Motherwell on Saturday after Borna Barisic’s personal absence but failed to impress Michael Beale after his lapse in judgement for the host’s opener.
Motherwell took the lead when a long ball found Max Johnston with Yilmaz terribly out of position and the winger then produced a superb low cross for Kevin van Veen in the right place to put the Steelmen ahead.
Rangers equalised through a superb free-kick from James Tavernier scoring his 98th goal for the club but all the focus will have been on his full-back counterpart after what’s been reported over the past 24 hours.
Turkish outlet Fanatik reported on 17 March that Yilmaz is set to leave Rangers on a season-long loan deal and return back to Besiktas this summer in search of regular football and his defending for that goal will not have helped his Ibrox chances.

With Beale also demanding pre-match for his full-backs to sit high and wide and provide his forwards with chances, Yilmaz also failed to deliver on that front, failing to complete any of his three crosses in very crucial positions in the final third.
The Turkish defender was only accurate with 60% of his passes. However, aside from his mistake for the goal, he managed to win two of his two ground duels and two of his three aerial duels.
But with the Gers chasing another Scottish Premiership victory to keep up their unbeaten streak under Beale, Yilmaz will need to improve in the attacking front in the second half if he is to ensure his Rangers future beyond this summer.
