Kenny Miller stunned by 'absolutely incredible' James Tavernier in Rangers win v Motherwell on BBC Sportsound

Kenny Miller was left stunned by James Tavernier and his “absolutely incredible” Rangers record after his terrific free-kick against Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday.

The Gers right-back provided a moment of inspiration for the visitors, scoring his 98th goal for the club from a superb free-kick after Kevin van Veen’s opener for Motherwell.

Michael Beale was made to sweat at Fir Park, but his side went on to cruise to victory in the end and keep the pressure on Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

And Miller was left stunned by what he saw on BBC Sportsound’s live reporting [18 March, 12:58 pm], he said;

“Liam Kelly looked like he was leaving it, he was trusting his wall but it was a big space. I don’t think it was James Tavernier’s best effort. It just did enough to get over the wall.

That’s goal number 98 for James Tavernier. An absolutely incredible return and again he’s Rangers’ go-to man when they need him for goals, for assists. He’s driving Rangers forward.”

What a player

Tavernier’s record for the Gers is simply incredible and unique, given his position as a right-back. Certainly, the defender’s goals come from penalties and free-kicks but it shows that the Ibrox veteran has mastered his art and is able to deliver at crucial moments when the Gers need it most.

The 31-year-old’s free-kick against Motherwell at Fir Park was just yet another example of Tavernier’s class and quality, dragging the Gers level from a stunningly taken free-kick right into the bottom corner.

It’s no wonder why ex-Rangers striker Miller was stunned by the goal. Certainly, Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly made it easy for him but he still had the composure and execution to find the net.

The one player Beale can rely upon to consistently come up with the goods when his team desperately needs it. He’ll again be a crucial player as the Gers face a testing end to the campaign.
