Rangers injury news as Nico Raskin sent for scan before Motherwell clash

Rangers have been handed another new injury blow ahead of their meeting with Motherwell with Nico Raskin sent for a scan on a thigh problem, according to the Daily Record.

Michael Beale has confirmed that while it is not “anything major,” the midfielder was still forced to miss training with the issue at Auchenhowie.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [17 March, pg 55] that Malik Tilman is fit and ready for the match at Fir Park, but that his teammate Raskin could be a doubt.

“Nico has a slight issue, he missed training today,” said Beale. “He had a bit of an issue with his quad after the game the other day, but we don’t think it is anything major.”

“It is touch and go,” the manager added.

Raskin to be rested?

Raskin has been a regular in Beale’s midfield since his January switch from Belgian side Standard Liege, with the 22-year-old impressing his manager and fans alike in these early stages.

He will, therefore, be a huge miss for the Gers should he be deemed not fit enough to make the matchday squad for the Scottish Premiership trip to Motherwell on Saturday (18 March).

While it would be a tough decision for Beale, it may make sense for the manager to leave Raskin out for the Motherwell clash, with Rangers possessing enough talent in midfield to overcome the side sitting 9th in the league table.

The international break then takes place immediately after the game, giving the Belgian more than enough time to recover from his issue fully before the huge clash with rivals Celtic in early April.

There is, of course, a league meeting with bottom-placed Dundee United before that derby, but Rangers may just already have one eye on the crucial fixture with their city rivals.

In other Rangers news, club legend Barry Ferguson has weighed in on the speculation that Michael Beale could be sacked.
