Nicolas Raskin urges Rangers to secure 'unbelievable' Ryan Kent's future at Ibrox

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin has urged the club to secure the future of “unbelievable” Ryan Kent and stated the club need to keep their best players.

The former Liverpool academy product is out of contract at the end of the season and there’s been no indication that he’s close to penning a new deal.

Michael Beale announced on 3 March that no Gers players who are out of contract this summer have been formally offered a new deal yet, and that he will make the final decisions.

And Raskin who joined Ibrox in the January window is adamant Rangers “need” to keep Kent if they want to compete for trophies.

Speaking to FootballScotland [14 March], he said: “Of course I want Ryan to stay here so I can play with him for a long time. I think he is very important for the team. If we want to achieve something we need to keep all of our best players — and he’s the best player. We need him here.”

“He’s a top player and he is inspiring as well. When I came to Rangers I saw him working hard every day in the gym, working to be fit.

“He’s a very good professional and that’s why he is so good, I want to learn from him.

“I’m enjoying playing with him a lot, he’s so good, when he’s got the ball at his feet, it’s almost unbelievable and impossible to take the ball off him. It’s hard to play against him in training but it’s very good to play with him.”

Baffling

It is incredibly baffling that the Gers have allowed Kent’s contract to run until its end, considering his crucial importance to the club and his potential to help the club consistently challenge Celtic.

The former Liverpool has long been one of the best players in a Gers shirt for a while now. And the idea that both he and Alfredo Morelos could yet leave Ibrox on free transfers is absolutely inconceivable, especially for a Rangers fan.

Kent’s form has tailed off a bit in recent weeks, but maybe put down to the uncertainty surrounding his career, which is never good for a player as good as Kent who wants to feel important at the club.

The uncertainty surrounding his future isn’t helping matters, especially coupled with the rumours that are emerging stating that clubs in England are interested in his services.

Beale and the whole club will be hoping that the player can shield himself away from such talks and keep his head in the game, with a lot still riding on their season in the coming weeks. Raskin is right, Kent is unbelievable and the club will be silly to let that sort of player leave for nothing.
