Andy Walker speaks out about latest Alfredo Morelos exit twist at Rangers as speculation emerges

Andy Walker has suggested Rangers “will miss” Alfredo Morelos after the striker was linked with a move away from Ibrox.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and it’s been suggested that Colombian is set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Sevilla (Vamos Mi Sevilla, 10 March).

Walker has reacted to the news and believes the Light Blues need someone of a “similar stature” to replace the forward.

“It is a great pity he is going out like this when maybe he isn’t in the best condition. If you look at Morelos over the last number of years, I think his numbers will be really impressive,” Walker told Go Radio (quoted by the Daily Record, 14 March).

“Rangers will miss him and they need to get someone like him, who they can rely on. I know they have Antonio Colak at the moment. But if Morelos goes, then they need someone of a similar stature to ensure a lot of strength up front.”

Talismanic

No matter what your thoughts on Morelos are, he’s been a superb servant for the club. The minimal transfer fee now looks like an absolute steal. Michael Beale’s arrival has also seen an improvement in his form. Towards the end of the Giovanni van Bronckhorst era, Morelos looked like a shadow of his former self.

At present, it seems unlikely that he will be playing his football in Scotland come the start of the 2023/24 season. Therefore another forward could well be on the agenda. Antonio Colak is likely to be an option for Beale but another proven number nine would be welcomed.

It’s certainly a sad way for the 26-year-old to end his Ibrox career. The board had the opportunity to cash in last summer and it’s proven to be a bad call. He’s still at an age where he could’ve earned the club a fairly large transfer fee. If he departs, let’s hope he can add one more trophy to his current Rangers haul.
